Cuban Timba.

Timba is a Cuban music genre, characterised by its great rhythmic richness, energy, changes in dynamics and strong influence from different genres of Cuban popular music. In these classes you will learn to dance as a couple to the music, using the foundations of Casino and Cuban Salsa, while developing a greater ability to interpret the different changes and nuances you will find in this genre.

We will work on connection, leading, figures, movement and musicality, learning to adapt our dancing to the energy and structure of the music.

The Timba class corresponds to the most advanced level at Golem Academy and is not aimed at beginners. In order to enjoy the classes and follow their content, it is necessary to have a good foundation in Cuban Salsa.

If you have never danced before, we recommend starting with Cuban Salsa Beginner, where you will learn the foundations needed to progress gradually towards this level. At Golem Academy, we want you to learn how to dance Timba while truly understanding its essence.

It is not about learning choreography, but about feeling the music, interpreting its changes and using the body to express it. Our classes are designed so that you progressively develop your coordination, musicality, technique and styles, while discovering a way of dancing full of energy and personality.

What will you learn?

During the classes we will work on different fundamental elements of Timba: characteristic Timba steps and movements, coordination and body control, dissociation and hip movement, footwork and weight changes, musicality and interpretation, different rhythms and structures of Cuban music, changes in dynamics and energy, style and attitude, individual movements and combinations, resources for incorporating Timba into social dancing.

As you progress, you will learn to recognise the different elements of the music and use them to create movements instead of simply memorising steps. What else will you learn? Steps, learning to feel the music. Timba has enormous musical richness and is full of changes, accents, pauses and different rhythmic layers. That is why in our classes we place special importance on musicality.

You will learn to listen to Cuban music differently, identify its changes and respond to them with your body. We will also work on movement quality, energy and attitude, so that little by little you find your own way of interpreting Timba.
