Lady style salsa in Basel

Our Lady Style Salsa classes at Golem Academy take place every Monday at 6:30 PM.

This is a solo dance class, so you don't need a partner.

What will you learn?

The programme is organised into four areas:

Arms and hands

This is the question everyone asks, which is why we start here.

Where do your arms go when you're relaxed? How do they move in and out without becoming stiff? And what do you do with the free hand in the middle of a figure?

Your arms aren't just decoration. They are part of the movement and come naturally from it.

Turns

Axis, spotting, and a clean exit.

You'll work on turning on your own, without anyone supporting you. This is what makes your turns work well later in partner dancing — not the other way around.

Steps and weight

Your own movement, changes of direction, and footwork that fills the spaces between figures.

This is where the dance starts to become your own, rather than simply being a response to someone else.

Attitude and musicality

Where do you look? How do you occupy the space? What can you do with the sections of the song that give you room to play?

We work on these elements through specific exercises rather than simply waiting for them to develop over time.

What will you take away?

You'll know what to do in the spaces between figures

The moments where you used to stop and wait will become the moments you look forward to.

Cleaner turns — also in partner dancing

Your axis and spotting are developed individually; in partner dancing, you simply apply what you've already built.

You'll learn to work with the music

You won't simply learn a choreography.

You'll learn how to work with the music and how to respond to it.
